Cast Your Burden upon the Lord

Cast Your Burden upon the Lord

Life is tough and the burdens it hands us can be so hard to bear sometimes. But we do not need to carry the burdens all alone. Jesus is our burden bearer. He is ever ready to carry our burdens and give us the grace and strength we need. Cast your heavy burdens on the lord today and let him help you to lighten them.

In this message, Fr. Mbaka discloses the secrets of dealing with anxieties and encourages the children of God not to bear their burdens all alone, rather to always throw them to the lord who is ever ready to care for them.

O God, we come to you today in the name of Jesus Christ who is our burden bearer, to throw all our cares, burdens, worries, anxiety and problems upon you because we know that you will sustain and care for us, and will never allow us to be moved, shaken or defeated. From today, even as your word is coming forth, we refuse to worry, be apprehensive and anxious anymore, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Today, God is waiting for you to cast your burden on Him. He has the capacity to take care of your challenges. What are those your heavy burdens? What are those things that are causing you so much worry, restlessness, distress, uneasiness, anxiety, and are disturbing your peace of mind? Release your faith to God specifically in those areas of your needs. As you go into God’s presence in prayer, and worship, give your burdens to the lord and leave them with Him by faith and refuse to carry them any more.

Burdens are heavy loads. They bring about a strong feeling of anxiety and worry, which disturb the peace of mind. They are synonymous to: distress, apprehension, restlessness, uneasiness, nervousness and fear.

Burdens steal ones joy and sap ones energy. It makes your hearts feel pain. It could be a pain of a broken relationship/marriage, lost of job, or poor health. Emotional trauma, wretchedness, failing health etc can all be heavy burdens.

Burdens which are synonymous to anxiety can lead to worry, fatigue and uneasiness. It actually hinders action in the sense that, it makes us lose sense of priority, and  affect our ability to think properly even as we focus more on ourselves and our problems, rather than God. It’s often a stress response and can have physical symptoms such as headache, fear and heart ache, even as it fights against contentment, courage and trust. You can therefore, respond to this mental state by trusting in the lord.

What can you do when you feel burdened?  What do you do when the weight of your burden crush in on you and your anxiety is making you sink to the extent that you find it difficult to let go? You cast your burden upon the lord. Ps. 55:22 says that you should cast all your cares upon the lord, and He will sustain you and you shall   not be shaken. New living translation put it this way: ‘’Give your burden to the lord and He will take care of you, He will not permit the Godly to slip and fall’’. Also, 1 peter 5: 7 says,’’ give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you’’.

To cast your burden upon the lord means total trust and dependent on God to handle all your worries.

But what does it mean to cast ones burden on the lord? It means total surrender and dependent on God to handle all of your problems, worries, and anxiety believing and trusting that He is ever capable to take care of them. Understand that whenever you are burdened, God is willing to take away the burden from you.  So don’t keep your burden to yourself, turn to God and know that He loves you, welcomes you and promises to help you.  Ask Him to keep the painful event from happening whatever it may be. Ask Him to save your marriage, keep you employed, save your children, give you good health or whatever that burdens your heart. To strengthen your faith, think about those times when God delivered His people from their adversaries and believe that He can also deliver you from that which is weighing down your spirit. Also, trust that if He allows this painful event to happen, it is to bring Him more glory, and He will take care of every need it creates.

Expression of Faith and trust in God is one of the ways of casting your cares upon the lord

When you are too anxious, you belittle God and exalt yourself. Why do you belittle God? God is able to do everything but you are not even able to do the least that is expected of you. Start being obedient to His words today, by leaving all your worries in the hands of the lord who is capable of handling them. But to be able to do this, you must have faith in God. If you don’t have faith, it is not so easy to simply cast all your cares on Him. Instead, you become worried. But by faith in God’s word, entire mountains of anxiety can be level and cast into the depth of the sea.   God only wants you to speak to Him with faith. Heb. 11: 6 says, ‘’without faith, it is impossible to please God’’. We are privileged to express our faith to God through various means: prayer, worship, service, giving and loving. In faith, we are required not to walk in worry, anxiety, and apprehension. We are to make specific request known to God who will take care of your problem, worries, and challenges. One of the tangible ways of   releasing your faith is casting your cares upon the lord.

Life is tough and the burdens it hands us can be so hard to bear. But you do not need to carry the burden alone.  Jesus is your burden bearer.  God is ever ready to carry your burdens and give you the daily strength you need. It is not God’s will that you should be crushed down with excessive burden. Let him help you today

Jesus will remove your heavy burdens and give you true rest in him.  Math.11: 28-30 says, ‘’come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden, I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light’’.

God promises to support and help you through every trial. Isaiah 41: 13 says,’’ For I, the lord your God will hold your right hand, saying to you, fear not, I will help you’’. Just knowing your heavenly Father cares about you personally can make any load seem lighter. 1 peter 5: 6-7 says, ‘’therefore humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, that He will exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

If you belong to him, God will always listen when you call to Him for help. ‘’The righteous cry out and the lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles’’, (Ps.34: 170). Isaiah 41:10 says, ‘’fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen you, I will help you , I will uphold you with my righteous right hand’’.

The word of God says that you should be anxious for nothing. People are anxious about virtually everything. People at times experience anxiety or are cut up in worry over something they cannot control. But since you know your God, you should realize how small and insignificant your problems actually are before Him.

Since God cares so much about lowly insignificant creatures, how much more about you who are created in the image and likeness of God.

Jesus gave a short sermon on how to let go of an anxiety in Math.6: 25-33. It says, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life- whether you have enough food and drink, or enough cloths to wear. Isn’t life more than food and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant: harvest or store food in barns, but your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautiful as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wild flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying what will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need”. The animals and the plants do not plan for their future yet God provides for them. Since God cares so much about insignificant lowly creatures, how much more about humans.  God places far higher value on us.  He will not care less about you, because you are created in the image and likeness of God. So, you do not need to worry because no amount of it could ever bring a solution, rather they will end up causing you more stress and anxiety.

The word of God also gives some practical heart advice, in Phil.  4: 6, “Do not be anxious about anything but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, continue to make your request known to God’’. Cutting off the habit of always dwelling on anxious thought is important, as anxiety leads to negative thoughts that do nothing to change anything. Prayer, thanksgiving, worship and supplication are all excellent ways as they stop the anxious thought and replace them with positive thoughts that are needed to fix the problem.

How to cast your burden to the lord

  • Pray without ceasing. Tell God exactly what your burdens are in prayer. By prayer, you are telling God that you want and need Him to take charge. Math. 7:7 says, “Ask and it shall be given to you seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be open to you, for every one that asked received: and he that seek, will find: and to him that knocked, it shall be opened’’. Open your hearts to God today and ask him for His intervention and He would be there to guide you, and handle your challenges.
  • Choose to confess positivity. Focusing on the negatives in your life can blind you from seeing the positives. Think and confess positive no matter the circumstances surrounding your life, and also surround yourself with positive people.
  • Count your blessings. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, list your blessings. Your blessings are countless, if you look inward. Use your words and imagination to recount the many blessings that God had given you instead of using them to predict a hopeless future.
  • Moreover, Burden makes us self- centered- it’s all about your problem, situations and feeling but try to be joyful, and give thanks, praises and worship to the lord at all times. Show your gratitude to God for all he has done for you, and always offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and praise to the lord. One thing that praise and Worship does is that it takes ones eyes off the entire burden and fixed them on the awesomeness of God.
  • Get into God’s words. If you have a specific burden that is dragging you down, name them and start looking for verses in scriptures that deals with them. There is no burden that has no place in scriptures that handles it.

God cares for you more than you think.

God cares for you. He shows a kind interest in all your needs and burdens. The lord loves to hear and help you as you bring your worries to Him. Indeed, He shows himself ready to help you before you even call upon Him. This is because God concerns Himself with the things that interest you. Whatever things that concerns you, be it spiritual or physical, small or big, God concerns Himself with them. He who knows that God cares for him, need not to be  too anxious about the things of this world, but  trust in Him who is capable of doing more than you even ask or  think of.  He cares for as many as humbly depend and trust in Him. Therefore, be for ever grateful that you don’t have to bear your burdens alone. Jesus bears them with you, if you throw them over to Him.

Before you cast all your cares on Him, worrying and anxiety ate up your energy and peace of mind but now that you have decided to leave it for God, You will find out that you are no longer driven by your own negative thoughts and worries.  God has taken charge. The yoke of anxiety, worries and burden has been broken in your life in Jesus Name, Amen.
