UGWUANYI COMMENDS ESUT TEACHING HOSPITAL FOR PROMPT DELIVERY SERVICES

By Charles C Opara

Enugu State governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has commended the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, for their effort at sustaining standard health delivery services to patients and urged them to re-double efforts at complimenting government’s determination to improve health-care delivery to the people.

Ugwuanyi spoke during a scheduled visit to the hospital. The resolve by the governor to transform the ESUT Teaching Hospital along Parklane Street in Enugu into a world class health institution is however, being thwarted by some management of the institution as they are neck-deep into fraudulent activities to enrich their pockets.

It was gathered that, there is a well co-ordinated chain of activities established by some highly  placed staff of the hospital who thrive in diverting patients to their private medical facilities to make money.  Our findings also indicated that these doctors and nurses also use hospital equipment to make personal money resulting in loss of revenue to the teaching hospital.

Last week’s visit was the second by the governor since he assumed duty in the state.  He had, his visit on assumption of office, pledged to defray the hospital bills of 19 nursing mothers at the Maternity Ward and that of Amanda Kalu and Dennis Amanda in the Surgery and Gynecology wards amounting to millions of Naira.

Last week, the governor was conducted round the hospital by the Chief Medical Director  Dr. Gabriel Njeze.

Njeze, a medical doctor, while  conducting Governor Ugwuanyi  round the medical wards, promised that his administration at the hospital would ensure Enugu State would be chosen as one of the preferred destinations in health care delivery services. In Nigeria and thanked the governor for his support to the hospital since he assumed duty as the chief executive of the state.
