The Enugu Bar has lost a member to the stealth hands of death. Death came knocking for Enugu based practising lawyer in the court premises as he exited the courtroom after attending the sitting.
The said lawyer Goddfrey Ekoh has reportedly died following an undisclosed ailment shortly after appearing at the Court of Appeal Enugu on Monday.
Ekoh, who was said to have worked with the Mogbo Chambers in Enugu, according to sources ,was in the appeal court to represent a client on Monday and after the court proceeding he had become weak and was unable to drive home.
A colleague of his was said to have driven him to an undisclosed hospital from where he was referred to the ESUTTH Parklane Teaching Hospital, Enugu.
He died shortly on arrival at the hospital and was so confirmed by doctors while his remains had been deposited in the hospital’s morgue.
An Enugu human rights lawyer who confirmed the report Tuesday dismissed as false earlier media reports that the lawyer (Ekoh) slumped and died inside the courtroom.
“I learnt that Ekoh Esq. did not collapse in court but was not feeling fine when he was leaving court of Appeal yesterday. He couldn’t drive to his office, somebody drove him. He was taken to hospital and was later referred to Park Lane where he later died,” said the legal practitioner.
Details of the ailment that led to his sudden demise could not be ascertained by press time as authorities of the Enugu teaching hospital could not be reached. Late Barrister Ekoh hailed from Ishan in Edo State.
