The Enugu State Police Command, on Monday, confirmed the assassination of an Enugu-based businessman, Ifeanyi Okeke.
Okeke, who was the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of AutoEase Service Limited, was reportedly assassinated on Sunday at the Bricks Estate, Independence Layout, Enugu, where he had gone to pick his seven-year-old son from a barber’s shop.
It was gathered that the assailants first bashed his car from the rear and when he came out to find out what was happening, they opened fire on him.
The command spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said Okeke was pronounced dead in a hospital where he was rushed to.
The statement read in part, “Following information received on July 4, 2021, around 8.30pm that hoodlums were operating at the Bricks Estate, Independence Layout, Enugu, police operatives attached to the Layout’s Police Division immediately raced to the scene.
“On sighting the operatives, the criminal elements fled, while their male victim, later identified as Ifeanyi Okeke, whom they shot several times, was rushed to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors on duty.
