A 32 year gentle looking Sani Saidu, a father of five has allegedly killed his master over #150,000 only. Saidu, a Gombe state born man allegedly stabbed his master Mr. Shittu Aremu, a truck driver to death while accompanying him to Port-Harcourt, River State where they are to deposit about 40,000 litres of petroleum product.
The truck driver who was about 56, works as a driver with S.K. Transport Services Nigeria Limited. His truck with the plate number AGL368 XA was reportedly loaded with Aviation fuel worth #5.5milion which he was to transport from Lagos to Port-Harcourt on the 13th day of November, 2014. Before he left Lagos he hired the said Saidu to be his assistant.
Two days after they took off from Lagos, the employer could not reach him on his mobile phone. They had to apply a tracking device to find out the location of the truck. The tracking device reportedly showed that the truck had been diverted from its assigned route to a place called Mutum Biu in Taraba State. The employer with the thought that the driver might have had the plan to dupe the company decided to lodge a complaint with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Yaba, Lagos State. Some detectives were sent to Taraba State where they succeeded in recovering the truck at Taraba Police Command and with only Saidu the motor boy. From investigation, the detectives gathered that Saidu had allegedly murdered the truck driver before diverting the truck to the North.
When he was asked why, how and where he committed the dastardly act, he narrated thus: “I killed Mr. Aremu whom he fondly called ‘Baba Oyo’ because I wanted to sell the Aviation fuel and raise #150,000 to travel to Dubia on a business trip. A friend of mine promised to take me to Dubia to buy handsets if I could raise #150,000. A day after we left Lagos, at about 6pm, the company called Baba Oyo and told him to park at Umunede, Delta State for security reasons and should proceed the following day. Baba Oyo parked as instructed. As we were there, I bought a knife and tied it with a rope on my leg. Very early the third day, Baba Oyo started the ignition for us to continue the journey. As we were about to move, I told him that one of the tyres had developed fault. I came out of the vehicle first and pretended to be checking the tyre. That was the time I brought out the knife from my leg. When he now came out to join me in checking, I raised my hand to stab him but he held my hand. We started struggling, in the process, the knife cut my index finger. I later over powered him and stabbed him first on the lap and later stabbed him in the stomach and left the knife there. As he was too weak to shout, I mounted the driver’s seat and drove off. I diverted the truck to the North with the intention to sell the fuel in Taraba State at the black market. When I got to Adamawa State, I sold four drums at the rate of #28,000 per drum. On getting to Katsina, the truck developed fault and I spent #57,000 to fix it. Then when I got to a check point at Mutum Biu, I was stopped by soldiers who were in joint operation with the police. They demanded for the way bill and I showed them. One of the police demanded for the plate number, I brought it from where I hid it because of the company’s number and showed him. He made a phone call and discovered that the truck was supposed to be heading to Port-Harcourt instead of Taraba. Since I could not provide the reason for the diversion, I was apprehended.”
Saidu is currently cooling off at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) as investigation is still going on to find out whether the body of the victim could be found at the claimed area of the crime.
