It is a common human phenomenon to expect the repeat of history. History repeats itself because we have refused to learn from history. Heraclitus the philosopher says that nothing in life is static. He says that the off stock of life is change, the only thing constant is change, and we cannot step on the same water twice.
We have also learnt from scriptures that in the realm of prophecies, prophetic lives are not static but dynamic. Instances are bound in the scriptures such as Prophet Samuel’s anointing of Saul and David as leaders of Israel at different times; God’s prophesy to King Hezekiah that he would die and that he would not die, at different times; Gods’ prophesy through Jonah to Nineveh that they will be destroyed and that they will be saved, at different times, etc.
So, it is with the 2018 prophetic message of Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria where he told President Buhari among other things not to seek re-election in 2019 election else, he will be disgraced. He also in that prophecy recommended the ilk of Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, the current Governor of Gombe state as a suitable alternative for the presidency to revive the Country’s battered economy. Like what happened in 2015, when Fr. Mbaka prophesied the fall of President Good luck Jonathan and the victory of Buhari, some Nigerians are at it again with their damning reactions to Fr. Mbaka’s prophecies. I could recall how many Nigerians came hard on Fr. Mbaka in 2015. He was branded all sorts of names,- false prophet, fake prophet, etc. Many accused him of receiving money from APC, others said he needed an oil block which Jonathan did not give him. Even the church which was supposed to protect him stripped him naked, with some Bishops calling for his sanction. His life came under treat, and his bank account was blocked. He was transferred from his former parish, Christ the King to the Adoration ground where he had no shelter that could accommodate him and the ministry’s assets, an offshoot of the then unholy romance among Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, PDP and the Church Hierarchy. Even some of the lukewarm worshippers of Adoration Ministry deserted Fr Mbaka, some of whom were the very beneficiaries of his charity and miraculous gifts. A self acclaimed musician was sponsored to mock him in a widely circulated musical video tagged “Mbaka Why”. We can go on and on.
Fr. Mbaka saw all this as the travails of a prophet. He fired on with his prophecy, insisting that his accusers should wait until after the 2015 election so that they would know if he was a true prophet or not. The 2015 election finally vindicated Fr. Mbaka when his prophesy came true. Jonathan was defeated and he conceded defeat. Buhari became the President. This was not as simple as we think. Nigerians have a short memory and we take things for granted. If the hand of God was not in Fr Mbaka’s prophecy, a numbers of factors would have annihilated it, one of which was the incumbency factor of President Jonathan. Do we think President Jonathan then didn’t have an option not to concede defeat? What really made him to surrender? Why didn’t he use the instrumentality of the Court then to upturn the outcome of the election? Your guess is as good as mine- God’s words must accomplish the purpose for which it was sent and there is a limit to which man can go against the mandate of God.
Fr. Mbaka’s enormous price to Buhari’s reign did not stop at that. Upon the swearing in of the president, Fr. Mbaka continued to support the president in prayers and advice. In his congratulatory message to Buhari published in Daily post of 2nd April 2015, Fr. Mbaka was quick to advise Buhari to seek divine wisdom before choosing people he would work with. The message read in part,
“The prayer of Fr. Mbaka is that, God will give Buhari wisdom not to surround himself with wrong people; that was the major problem Jonathan’s administration faced. Fr. Mbaka has advocated that Nigerians should be patient with Buhari because the holes dug in the country are too much- holes of corruption, holes of unemployment, among others. However, if the patience of Nigerians is exhausted, if Buhari fails to deliver, Fr. Mbaka will be the first to cast the stone”, (Emphasis mine).
Whether Buhari heeded to Fr. Mbaka’s advice in choosing the people he works with was to play out three years into the administration when we began to know and hear of cabals, the hyenas and so on around the presidency. Nigerians began to lose their patience with Buhari. Fr. Mbaka remained committed to defending the presidency and commending him for the way he tackled insurgency of Boko Haram while still admonishing him to address the people’s problem of hunger, corruption, massive unemployment in Nigeria and to inaugurate a credible economic team to rescue the nation’s economy from dungeon.
Not even any of Buhari’s self appointed image makers who are paid for the job could project and defend Buhari’s image the way Fr. Mbaka was doing albeit unrequited. Sure he may have thought as we all did that Buhari could heed his advice and sit up or better still, he had not by then received any divine command to speak to the contrary. In the days of Buhari’s ill health when Buhari had to spend over 100 days abroad on medical treatment, Fr. Mbaka seemed to be the only one voice that led the prayer crusade for Buhari’s healing and health. I could recall his last prophetic prayers for Buhari when he decreed that the President must return home alive to complete the work he had started. It was few days after this that Buhari returned to Nigeria hale and hearty.
Things seemed to be going from bad to worse, especially in areas of the country’s economy, with Nigerians wailing and crying for help that seemed not to be coming from any quarter. There appeared to be lots of lapses and oversight in the Buhari’s administration that continued unabated. His scores in insecurity by crushing Boko Haram which seemed to be the stronghold of his protagonist was knocked off by the horrendous mayhem of Fulani Herdsmen that continued unabated in different parts of the county. The blunder of the appointment of dead people into the Federal boards and parastatals after 3 years of the overdue appointment left much to be desired. Many unemployed Nigerians did not find that appointment funny. To say the least, some envied the dead to the point of thinking of joining them through suicide mission since death certificate seemed to have become an advantage to secure job appointment in Nigeria.
Though Fr. Mbaka is a man who seeks no human rewards for his prayers and prophesies, I had expected that President Buhari could have at least shown him some kind of gratitude for standing by him in some kind of ways. A presidential thanksgiving to God in Adoration Ministry would not have been an honour to Fr. Mbaka compared to what God is using him to do for Buhari’s administration. During the last visit of the President to the South East when he had to travel from Ebonyi State to Anamabra, one would have expected that the President should have at least asked of that man of God whose prayer voice was a pillar to his government. This to my mind adds to the point of what Buhari’s critics used to say, that he never rewarded those that worked for him. Howbeit, Fr. Mbaka seemed not be bordered about this. He continued to defend president and was ever ready to do more if not for the kneel of the Divine command that he should hand down the caveat to Buhari not to seek re-election. A command he had no choice than to obey.
I observed one thing peculiar about the 2018 message of Fr. Mbaka. He could not have declared that message if not that he was divinely mandated to do so. I can recall that Fr. Mbaka lost his voice at the altar that night. He was almost not able to speak very audible no matter how hard he tried. He revealed to us later that he lost his voice as a result of his stubbornness. He explained that when he received that message from God, he was not willing to declare it and as a result, heavens ceased his voice to tell him that they are the owners of the voice. It was then that he submitted to the divine mandate, and no sooner did he submit than his voice was restored. This is one fact many who listen to his 2018 New Year message observed but did not understand. The next time you listen to that message, pay attention to his voice at the beginning of the message.
Fr. Mbaka’s 2018 New Year message to Buhari not to seek re- election in Nigeria takes me back to Fr. Mbaka’s congratulatory message to Buhari in 2015 as quoted earlier that “if the patience of Nigerians is exhausted, if Buhari fails to deliver, Fr. Mbaka will be the first to cast the stone”.
It is here that one can decode the consistency in the seeming inconsistency of Fr. Mbaka’s prophetic messages. Only those with wisdom can understand this while fools continue to make fury of the situation.
With Fr. Mbaka now appearing to have cast the first stone, others have followed suit. PDP did not waste time to back Fr. Mbaka on his prophecy. Christian Association of Nigeria followed suit. The Gombe state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Ibrahim Jodi, while on a courtesy visit at the Gombe Government House, on Saturday, lambasted one Mohammed Jibrin Barde for denouncing Mbaka’s prediction on Dankwambo. In his statement published in the daily post of 7th January 2018, it was reported that Reverend Jodi, while on a courtesy visit at the Gombe Government House, on Saturday, lambasted one Mohammed Jibrin Barde for denouncing Mbaka’s prediction on Dankwambo Saying, “God revealed His message for the federal government to Reverend Mbaka that incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari would not be re-elected in 2019, and that you (Dankwambo) are better suited to take over from him.
In daily post publication of 8th January 2018, PDP backed Fr. Mbaka on his prophecy. The publication reads: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo’s achievement is enough to instill confidence in the people that he can rule the country in 2019. Reacting to the raging controversy surrounding the New Year predictions of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Sen. Babayo Gamawa told reporters in Gombe on Sunday that though only God knows the future, the PDP would be glad to have Dankwambo as its flag bearer come 2019’.
Just few days ago, former president Olusegun Obasanjo followed suit with an 18 paged epistle to President Buhari, advising him to dismount the horse honorably and not contest for 2019 election.
Obasanjo’s letter published in Punch Newspaper of 24th January 2018, reads in part: “President Buhari’s illness called for the sympathy, understanding, prayer and patience from every sane Nigerian. It is part of our culture. Most Nigerians prayed for him while he was away sick in London for over hundred days and he gave his Deputy sufficient leeway to carry on in his absence. We all thanked God for President Buhari for coming back reasonably hale and hearty and progressing well in his recovery. But whatever may be the state of President Buhari’s health today, he should neither over-push his luck nor over-tax the patience and tolerance of Nigerians for him, no matter what his self-serving, so-called advisers, who would claim that they love him more than God loves him and that without him, there would be no Nigeria say. President Buhari needs a dignified and honourable dismount from the horse. He needs to have time to reflect, refurbish physically and recoup and after appropriate rest, once again, join the stock of Nigerian leaders whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country. His place in history is already assured.
Without impaired health and strain of age, running the affairs of Nigeria is a 25/7 affair, not 24/7. I only appeal to brother Buhari to consider a deserved rest at this point in time and at this age. I continue to wish him robust health to enjoy his retirement from active public service. President Buhari does not necessarily need to heed my advice. But whether or not he heeds it, Nigeria needs to move on and move forward.”
That was not all, many Nigerians had continued to bare their minds on Fr. Mbaka’s prophetic message to Buhari. Some of them as AMEN Super News gathered read as follows:
Peter Esinwoke Omelazu • University of Lagos “This prophecy is very scary and calls for national repentance”
Abdulkarim Shaibu • Principal Partner at A.A.Shaibu & Associates. “Ignore Fr. Mbaka at your own peril.
Elei Gabriel Gabriel “Muhammad Abdullahi Ahmad, why worried, when the same Man Of God against the former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, before the 2015 presidential election, there was joy and happiness and jubilation in your camp. Now, the table has turned and you are angry. Why?
Emmanuel Okewih Onyemaechi • Abia state university uturu “Man of God has revealed his prophecy whether you like it or leave it, It’s has been revealed”.
Frank Ifeanyi Nwune “LIKE IN THE DAYS OF NOAH”.
Wakawa Paul Mwada • Evangelist at Student Christian Movement (S.C.M) “Even without prophecy, we know it will be difficult for Buhari to win election”.
Emeana Ifeanyi • Director (company) at Arab construction company, “Buhari is going no way, the suffering continues our mumu neva do’..
Nwaego Prince • Staff at Royal Exchange Insurance Nigeria Ltd, “I will vote Buhari in 2019….,as a pay back to all those that voted him in 2015. Una think say na only una wicked abi ???
Shola Balogun • Chief executive officer at Self-employed “Man of God, please, whom should we vote for?”
David Obi ‘If it where Buhari I know, he will go for 2023, unless the man is jubrin of Sudan,
Uchenna Akunne • St. Paul School of Theology “Why can’t Nigeria media quote somebody correctly. The information contained in vanguard and Nation is different from the one in the sun and the one written here. According to Vanguard and Nation, Mbaka did not say Buhari should not contest 2019 but rather he told him to change his system of government otherwise wind of change will blow him away out of office shamefully. What if Buhari listens to this advice and change? Won’t he contest? Nigeria media is rubbish”.
Sunday Ode ‘Is a serious matter”.
Alphonsus Duniya • Dosen at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria, ”Mbaka has his own prediction or prophecy. You can call it and you have yours about Buhari coming back as president. Who stops you or says you are lying”.
Godwin Mackson • Project Engineer at JAD Construction, “ Buhari has nothing to offer, Buhari has fail ok, stop being sentimental”.
Jacob Emmanuel • Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies “Wow”
Blessing Ogbuagu • Lagos, Nigeria, “PDP doesn’t have any bad image except the one APC created against them but for sure Mbaka said in 2015, we rejoiced. We should also rejoice on this too! Yes…”
James Oshoke John • C. E. O at Click Services Limited, “How true is this… Buhari Evicted My Sick Wife & Every Single Patient From Cedar crest Hospital Abuja. As at yesterday, I got a distress call from my in-laws that my sick wife had been evicted from Cedar crest Hospital. I was at first confused. I didn’t owe the hospital and I had to call my family Doctor who works in the hospital to confirm what is happening. He told me the presidency had ordered them to clear the entire hospital so that full and undivided attention can be given to his son. They also claimed it was for security measures and to keep the eyes of the press away. As in, when does the life of the president takes precedent over my sick wife life!!! And can you imagine, I heard several sick patients and another man on life support had been kicked out of the hospital. This government, this Buhari and his cabinet and family are the biggest mess to ever happen to this country. This was a lose I suffered severally to vote for him. I was criticized and heckled profusely for campaigning for this morafoka!!!!
Sadiq Suleiman • Sulab high school okpo “We are waiting”
Charles Chukwunonso • University of Nigeria Nsukka “Let God’s will be done. Thank you man of God”.
Daniel Emenike, “The message is clear, I believe Mbaka till tomorrow”.
Festus Versatile Utazi • Onitsha, “I’m already aware. I shared two similar prophetic messages yesterday from different known pastors. Nigeria is fed up with him. We voted him in expecting a change from Jonathan’s, not knowing that we were jumping from frying pan to a lions’ den”.
Builder Olalekan • M.D. at Co-Habit LTD, “Patriotic citizens must shove aside all sentiments of tribe, religion, etc and advise APC to come forth with a better candidate for 2019. Buhari has numerous drawbacks that heavily weigh against modern Nigeria. Another 4 yrs of mediocrity isn’t acceptable to Nigerians and those who field him again shall be held for the consequence. We all clamour for change, and put him in charge but he has failed. Nigeria is greater than any Nigerian.”
Whatever be the reactions of Nigerians over Fr. Mbaka’s message, I would not say more than that. I have said in my earlier article, “Nigerians be warned, Fr Mbaka’s prophecies never crossed the bar”. We are standing akimbo, and shall continue to watch the future, and as it unfold. Until then, you are entitled to your opinion.
